Chapter Seven

Respond to the question, and then respond to another student's post.

Chapter Seven
Think about your relationships with your parents, coaches or teachers.  Have they fostered a fixed-mindset or a growth-mindset in you?  Explain your reasoning.

Teacher Comments

Hello,
I have been trying to enjoy the last few weeks of summer and completely forgot to post your discussion questions for August!  I'll extend the deadline of posting your responses for Chapter Seven to Friday, September 8th.  Enjoy the last couple of days of vacation and I'm excited to see you all next week.

Teacher Comments

Hello,
I just finished reading your discussion posts for the month of June.  Your insights and connections to the book were excellent and I always enjoy reading your personal stories of struggles and triumph whether it be in sports, academics or the arts.

A couple of things for the July postings...
- Only respond to one discussion post from another student.  You do not need to respond twice, but are welcome to do so if you like what another student has written and can relate to it.

- Before each discussion post identify what chapter you are responding to in your answer.  For example:  Chapter Three -....

- Don't forget to reference a quote from the book when writing your answer.  You will lose points if you don't include a quote and page number from the chapter.

That's it.  I look forward to reading your July postings.  Enjoy the last few weeks of the summer.

Chapter Three, Chapter Four and Chapter Six

Respond to each question.  Then, respond to one student's post from either chapter.  Remember you only have to read chapter three and either chapter four or chapter six.

Chapter Three
Did you always assume that success came right from innate talent or ability?  Think of someone who wasn't labeled brilliant or talented, but are highly successful.  How did they do it?

Chapter Four
Do you have the mindset of a champion?  Do you do your best when things are going for you or against you?  How can you use a growth mindset to raise your game when it counts most?

Chapter Six
Have you closed yourself off to certain relationships because you expect perfection - total alignment in every way?  Think about the people you know who would be wonderful additions to your life in spite of their imperfections?

Chapter One and Chapter Two

Respond to each question.  Then, respond to one student's post from either chapter.  Refer to the Directions and Requirements post to make sure you include all the different parts to each answer.

Chapter One
Can you think of a time you faced an important opportunity or challenge with a fixed mindset?  What were your thoughts and worries about your abilities?

Chapter Two
Have you ever been like Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg - afraid to give something important your full effort?  Are there other self-defeating ways to try to protect yourself from (meaningful) failure?

WELCOME AP PSYCHOLOGY
The goal for this virtual book club is to understand the difference between a 'fixed mindset' and a 'growth mindset'.  This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on new ideas and concepts that you learn from the chapter.  And also to expand your understanding of the chapters by reading the thoughts of your classmates.  I am excited for the virtual journey we are about to embark on this summer and can't wait to read your inspiring thoughts on Mindset
